Central Illinois Weather: Morning Storms Hit I-72 and Danville Thursday Before Rain Fades This Afternoon

Springfield, Illinois – Drivers along and south of I-72 face periods of rain and thunderstorms Thursday morning, with wet pavement and reduced visibility possible before precipitation diminishes from west to east during the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, showers and thunderstorms will be most prevalent near and south of the I-72 corridor and Danville Thursday morning. Communities farther north, including Peoria and Galesburg, have a good chance of remaining dry. Clouds and rain will hold afternoon highs to 78 to 82 degrees across the region.

The weather improves quickly Friday, with mostly sunny skies and highs of 80 to 83 degrees. Travelers on I-55, I-72 and I-74 should encounter better conditions as the workweek ends.

Heat and humidity begin building Saturday, pushing highs to 83 to 88 degrees. Sunday remains warm under partly cloudy skies, with temperatures ranging from 82 to 89 degrees.

By Monday afternoon, highs could reach 93 degrees. Scattered thunderstorms may develop northwest of the Illinois River, potentially affecting parts of west-central Illinois. Residents planning extended outdoor activity should stay hydrated as temperatures rise and monitor weather alerts if storms approach.
