Our weather, alert, and earthquake data comes directly from federal agencies. Here's how it works.
Country Herald pulls weather data directly from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service (NWS). This data is updated automatically throughout the day.
Earthquake data is sourced from the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program. Space weather alerts come from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC).
Weather alerts shown in the alert bar at the top of every page reflect active NWS alerts for your state.
Our Data Sources
NOAA National Weather Service (NWS)
Current conditions, forecasts, watches, and warnings for all US locations.
NOAA SWPC (Space Weather Prediction Center)
Space weather alerts, solar flares, geomagnetic storms, and aurora forecasts.
USGS Earthquake Hazards Program
Real-time earthquake data including magnitude, location, and depth.
NOAA National Hurricane Center
Tropical storm and hurricane tracking, advisories, and forecasts.
NOAA Storm Prediction Center
Tornado and severe thunderstorm watches and warnings.
Update Frequency
- • Current conditions: Every 1–2 hours
- • Active weather alerts: Every 15 minutes
- • Earthquake data: Every 30 minutes
- • Space weather alerts: Every hour
