Grundy County, IL Shooting: Police Say Gun Fired Near Taco Bell Sunday

Morris, IL - A 23-year-old Manhattan man faces weapons charges after police said a firearm was discharged from a vehicle leaving a Taco Bell in Morris early Sunday, prompting a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Grundy County, southwest of the Chicago area.

According to the Morris Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:31 a.m. Sunday to Taco Bell, 1816 N. Division St., after receiving a report that a firearm had been discharged from a vehicle.

Police said the reporting party told officers that a person had been causing a disturbance while in the restaurant's drive-thru. As the vehicle left the area, someone allegedly fired a gun from one of its windows.

Morris police officers and Grundy County sheriff's deputies later located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on I-80 at Ashley Road.

Police identified the driver as 23-year-old Richard Facchina of Manhattan. Facchina and a passenger were taken into custody and transported to the Morris Police Department while detectives investigated the incident.

According to police, detectives returned to the Taco Bell, processed the scene, reviewed surveillance footage, interviewed witnesses and the people involved, and collected evidence.

Following the investigation, police said Facchina was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm. The allegations have not been proven in court.

Facchina was transported to the Grundy County Jail. Police said the passenger was released without charges.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
