Illinois Deputies Investigate Armed Burglary of Gaming Machines

Green Oaks, IL – Lake County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating an armed robbery that occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at approximately 3:35 a.m. at a gas station in the 14000 block of West Rockland Road. According to the clerk on duty, five masked offenders entered the business carrying sledgehammers and crowbars, which they used to force entry into several gaming machines and a cash register drawer. A sixth offender remained outside in a black SUV.

A private security guard hired by the gaming company was present during the incident but was unharmed. Following the break-in, the offenders fled the scene in the black SUV, which was last seen traveling southbound on I-294 at a high rate of speed. The Lake County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division has launched an investigation into the burglary.

Authorities have established a task force involving detectives from throughout the Chicagoland region to share intelligence regarding similar gaming machine burglaries. Officials are working collaboratively to identify the offenders and hold them accountable.
