Iowa-Illinois Fall Starts Cool, Showers End Tuesday

Davenport, Iowa – Fall begins Tuesday evening after scattered showers exit the Quad Cities, with highs in the 60s and overnight lows dropping into the 40s.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, scattered showers will continue through early Tuesday afternoon before moving out by Tuesday night. Rain chances range from 30% to 60% during the day.

High temperatures across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois will range from 60 to 66 degrees Tuesday. The autumnal equinox occurs at 7:05 p.m. CDT, officially marking the beginning of astronomical fall.

Temperatures will match the change of seasons. Tuesday night lows are expected to fall to between 45 and 52 degrees, bringing a noticeably cooler evening to Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island and surrounding communities.

Incoming high pressure will then provide an opportunity for the region to dry out through Thursday.

Wednesday brings a mix of sun and clouds with highs ranging from 64 to 70 degrees. Temperatures Wednesday night fall to between 48 and 55.

Thursday will be slightly warmer, with afternoon highs from 65 to 71 degrees. Thursday night lows range from 49 to 56.

For Tuesday travel, residents should be prepared for wet pavement where scattered showers continue through early afternoon. Conditions should improve as precipitation moves out and high pressure takes control.

The Quad Cities will get an appropriately cool start to astronomical fall, with daytime temperatures in the 60s and nights in the 40s and 50s through midweek. After Tuesday's showers depart, dry conditions should prevail through Thursday.
