Jackson Heat Holds in 90s as Humidity Drops

Jackson, Mississippi – Highs stay in the 90s across much of central Mississippi Wednesday, but drier air will bring lower humidity and cooler nights.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a drier air mass will spread across the region, producing less humid conditions while daytime temperatures remain at to just above normal. Cooler overnight lows will continue into next week.

Jackson is expected to reach 94 degrees Wednesday before falling to 69 overnight. The city then reaches 91 Thursday and Friday, with nighttime temperatures dropping to 68 Thursday night and 66 Friday night.

The heat will also continue elsewhere in Mississippi. Hattiesburg and Natchez are expected to reach 95 Wednesday, while Greenville, Greenwood, Vicksburg and Meridian reach 93. Starkville and Brookhaven top out at 92.

Overnight temperatures provide a more noticeable change. Greenwood could fall to 63 Thursday night, with Starkville dropping to 64 and Meridian to 65. Jackson's overnight lows remain in the mid- to upper 60s through Tuesday.

Daytime heat persists through the weekend despite the lower humidity. Jackson climbs from 91 Saturday to 93 Sunday and remains at 93 Monday and Tuesday. Greenville reaches 95 Tuesday, while Greenwood reaches 95.

People spending extended periods outside should still account for temperatures in the upper 80s and 90s even as humidity decreases. Cooler overnight readings should provide some relief from the daytime heat.

The drier pattern continues into next week, with the Weather Service temperature outlook keeping Jackson's highs in the low 90s and overnight lows in the 60s through Tuesday.
