Kendall County, IL Police Scene: Shelter Order Remains in Effect

Oswego, IL – A shelter-in-place order remains in effect for part of Oswego Friday morning as police work to resolve an active situation that began with a welfare check and involved a firearm being discharged inside a residence.

According to the Oswego Police Department, officers remain at the scene in the 500 block of Colchester Drive. Police said officers were initially sent to the residence after receiving a report that prompted a welfare check.

Upon their arrival, a firearm was discharged inside the home, according to police. Authorities believe the individual involved is the only person inside the residence, and no injuries have been reported.

Police initially established a shelter-in-place area extending one mile from the incident. In a 6:50 a.m. update, authorities said that radius had been reduced to a quarter-mile around the scene.

Residents outside that smaller area are no longer included in the shelter order, but police continue to ask people to avoid the immediate vicinity while officers work to safely resolve the situation.

Authorities said there are no Community Unit School District 308 school buildings within the affected quarter-mile radius. However, the incident could potentially affect school bus routes, and families were directed to District 308 for transportation updates.

Police described the situation as an active incident and said the amount of information they can currently release is limited.
