Lake County, IL Arrest: Man Accused of Possessing Child Abuse Material

Round Lake Heights, IL – A Lake County man faces seven felony charges after investigators allegedly traced child sexual abuse material involving children younger than 13 to an electronic device at a Round Lake Heights residence, authorities announced Friday.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, cybercrime detectives began investigating after becoming aware that images of child sexual abuse material were allegedly being shared from an electronic device in Round Lake Heights.

Detectives determined the device was allegedly located at a residence in the 700 block of Pontiac Court and obtained a search warrant.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and detectives executed the warrant Thursday with assistance from electronic detection K-9 teams and the Illinois Attorney General's Office.

Following the investigation, detectives arrested a man identified by authorities as Medina. The Lake County State's Attorney's Office subsequently approved seven counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, all Class 2 felonies, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff John D. Idleburg said cooperation among county and state agencies remains critical to identifying people who allegedly exploit children online and holding offenders accountable.

Medina was scheduled to appear in court Friday morning. Prosecutors intend to petition the court to keep him detained while he awaits trial, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities did not provide additional information in the announcement about the number of electronic devices seized or whether further charges could be considered.

The charges are allegations. Medina is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
