Lake County, IN: I-94 Ramp Closures Scheduled Beginning Tuesday

Lake County, IN – Motorists traveling through Lake County should prepare for upcoming travel disruptions as the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Northwest district initiates intermittent short-term ramp closures. The maintenance project begins on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and is expected to continue through the end of the month.

The work focuses on the I-94 interchange at Kennedy Avenue and the I-94 interchange at U.S. 41/S.R. 152/Indianapolis Boulevard. INDOT officials stated that the closures are necessary for the cleaning and inspection of drainage facilities. The project is being conducted in partnership with the Little Calumet River Basin Commission.

Traffic will be managed such that the Kennedy Avenue interchange will be addressed first, followed by the work at the Indianapolis Boulevard interchange. While these closures are intended to be short-term, authorities advise commuters to remain alert for changing traffic patterns and to build extra time into their travel schedules throughout the remainder of September.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes where possible to avoid potential delays near these high-traffic areas. INDOT has provided notice to ensure that residents and commercial drivers can plan their commutes effectively during the duration of this infrastructure maintenance period.
