Larimer County, CO Shooting: Man Jailed on $500K Bond

Larimer County, CO – An 80-year-old man faces an attempted murder charge and a $500,000 cash-only bond after allegedly shooting an adult family member Thursday afternoon at a home near Loveland, authorities announced Friday.

According to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, deputies and Loveland police responded just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday to a shooting in progress in the 4200 block of Page Place in unincorporated Larimer County.

Responding officers located both the injured victim and the suspect, identified by authorities as Ralph Vaughan. Vaughan was taken into custody without further incident, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim, described as an adult relative of Vaughan, was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Authorities said the victim is expected to recover. No additional information about the person's injuries was released.

Vaughan was also taken to a hospital for what authorities described as an unrelated medical issue. He was released Friday and booked into the Larimer County Jail.

According to the sheriff's office, Vaughan faces charges of first-degree attempted murder with deliberation and intent involving a gun, a Class 2 felony; first-degree assault involving a family member and gun, a Class 3 felony; and reckless endangerment, a Class 2 misdemeanor.

The Larimer County Court issued Vaughan a $500,000 cash-only bond.

Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and Thompson Valley EMS also assisted during the response.

Authorities did not disclose what allegedly led to the shooting or provide additional details about the relationship between Vaughan and the victim.

The charges are allegations, and Vaughan is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
