Monroe County Crash Leaves One Dead, One Hospitalized

Monroe County, IN – A fatal single-vehicle accident occurred early Wednesday, September 9, 2026, claiming the life of a 19-year-old woman. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident at approximately 1:27 a.m. in the 8300 block of South State Road 446, near Allens Creek Road.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported that a Subaru was traveling along State Road 446 when it exited the roadway and subsequently overturned. Emergency responders arrived to find a 19-year-old female passenger, a resident of Medora, who had succumbed to the injuries sustained during the crash.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as an 18-year-old male from Franklin, survived the impact but sustained serious injuries. He was airlifted from the scene to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to undergo medical treatment. Their current conditions have not been released at this time.

The Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team has been deployed to the site of the accident. Investigators are currently working to determine the factors that led to the vehicle leaving the road. Officials have indicated that further information will be released to the public as the investigation progresses.
