Brockport, NY – Two men face charges following an investigation into alleged unlicensed cannabis sales at a Brockport-area convenience store in Monroe County, west of Rochester.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, investigators working with the New York State Office of Cannabis Management arrested the men Tuesday following an investigation at Brockport Convenience, 4756 Lake Road South in the town of Sweden.
Investigators obtained search warrants for the business and a South Street apartment in Brockport where authorities said employees were staying.
During the search of Brockport Convenience, authorities reported recovering several pounds of cannabis, various cannabis-related products and currency. Investigators allegedly found additional currency and keys to a storage closet at the shopping plaza while searching the apartment. More cannabis-related products were subsequently recovered from that storage area, the sheriff’s office said.
Ali S. Al Fanini, 32, of Brockport, was taken into custody at the apartment. He is charged with third-degree criminal possession of cannabis, a Class A misdemeanor, and three counts of unlawful sale of cannabis, which authorities listed as violations.
Jalal Mohamed Alawi Hussein, 24, of Brockport, was not at either location when the warrants were served, according to deputies. Authorities said personnel later located a vehicle associated with both men traveling west on West Ridge Road and apprehended Hussein.
Hussein is charged with third-degree criminal possession of cannabis and two counts of unlawful sale of cannabis.
The allegations remain pending in court, and the charges do not constitute a finding of guilt.
Both men were issued appearance tickets and released in accordance with New York state law, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office credited its investigators, deputies and the state Office of Cannabis Management for their work on the case.
