Pacific Weather Today: 2 Hurricanes, Tropical Storm Nolo Active

Pacific Ocean – Tropical activity remains busy across the eastern and central Pacific Thursday, with two hurricanes and Tropical Storm Nolo active while forecasters monitor additional areas for possible development.

According to the National Hurricane Center's Thursday morning Pacific Tropical Weather Outlook, Hurricane Polo was about 100 miles offshore of southwestern Mexico, while Hurricane Odalys was well west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California.

Closer to Hawaii, Tropical Storm Nolo was positioned a few hundred miles south of the Big Island. At 2 a.m. Hawaii time Thursday, Nolo had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and was nearly stationary, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The agency's forecast graphic indicates Nolo could strengthen as it begins moving generally northwestward. The forecast cone keeps the storm center away from the main Hawaiian Islands, but residents should continue monitoring updated forecasts because track and intensity projections can change.

Meanwhile, another area of low pressure is expected to develop south of Mexico's Gulf of Tehuantepec within the next couple of days. Forecasters said conditions should support gradual development, with a tropical depression likely to form early next week while moving roughly parallel to Mexico's southern and southwestern coastline.

The National Hurricane Center is also watching for possible development well east-southeast of Hawaii. A low could form over the weekend before moving generally northeastward. Its seven-day development chance was listed at 30%.
