Portage, IN – The Porter County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is reminding residents that the "Disaster Relief One Stop Shop" is open for business at Woodland Park. The event, which began on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, will continue through Saturday, September 12, 2026, to assist those affected by local disasters in filing for necessary federal aid.
Officials emphasize that proper preparation is vital to ensure that FEMA applications are processed without delay. Applicants must arrive with comprehensive documentation to support their claims. The required information includes personal contact details, a Social Security number, total household income, and relevant banking information for the potential disbursement of funds.
In addition to personal identification, residents should bring a general list of all property damage and losses incurred. If the property or individual was insured, it is requested that claimants bring their policy numbers, the names of their insurance agents or companies, and any letters or notices provided by the insurer regarding the status of their claims, whether they be settlements, denials, or delays.
EMA staff note that bringing the correct and complete documentation is crucial for an expeditious application process. Residents are encouraged to review their files before arriving at the Woodland Park site to ensure all requested items are in hand, facilitating a smoother experience for both applicants and agency staff.
