Scott County, IA Crash: Woman Killed, 3 Children Critical

LeClaire, IA – A woman was killed and three children were critically injured Tuesday evening in a three-vehicle crash involving a semi on South Cody Road near West Canal Shore Drive in LeClaire, according to authorities.

According to the Scott County Sheriff's Office, the Scott Emergency Communication Center received a 911 call at approximately 6:26 p.m. Tuesday reporting the crash. The sheriff's office Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene.

Investigators said a white 2025 Volvo semi-tractor trailer was traveling south on South Cody Road toward Riverdale while a white 1993 Honda Civic and black 2016 Ford Escape were traveling north.

For reasons that remain under investigation, authorities said the semi and Honda collided. The Honda briefly went underneath the semi's trailer. The Ford then collided with the semi before coming to rest against the east guardrail.

The 32-year-old LeClaire woman driving the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff's office. Three children riding in the Ford were transported by Scott County Medic EMS and ultimately taken to University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City in critical condition.

An 18-year-old LeClaire woman who was the sole occupant of the Honda was flown by AirCare to University of Iowa Health Care in critical condition.

The semi driver, a 44-year-old man from Davenport, Florida, was not injured and declined medical treatment at the scene.
