Mount Shasta Vista, CA – The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has announced the arrest of 39-year-old Russell Asher of Montague in connection with a shooting that occurred on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The incident, which took place near Karina Drive and County Road A-12, resulted in injuries to 49-year-old Baojue Lin.
According to the SCSO, deputies were alerted to the presence of a gunshot victim at Fairchild Medical Center. The victim, a resident of Elk Grove, reported that he had been cooking breakfast at his father’s property at approximately 10:30 a.m. when he heard his dogs barking and sounds of gunfire. Upon investigating outside, the victim was struck by several pellets from a shotgun.
The victim was able to drive himself to Fairchild Medical Center for treatment of injuries to his head, shoulder, face, and torso. During an interview with authorities, the victim could not identify the shooter but pointed to neighbors living at an adjacent property. When contacted by deputies, Asher allegedly claimed he fired rounds after his neighbor's dog approached his property and alleged that the victim had fired at him with a handgun.
Investigators stated that a search of both properties yielded no evidence to support Asher's claims regarding a handgun. However, deputies did locate Asher's firearm and the spent rounds that struck the victim. Asher was taken into custody for assault with a firearm and battery causing great bodily harm and was transferred to the Siskiyou County Jail. The public is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 530-841-2900 with any additional information.
