Streator Firefighters Extinguish Accidental Structure Fire

Streator, IL – The Streator Fire Department (SFD) successfully extinguished an accidental structure fire that broke out at 406 S. 4th Avenue on Monday, September 14, 2026.

According to a press release from Captain Ed Levy, crews were dispatched at 4:02 p.m. to find heavy smoke and flames billowing through the roof. The incident was quickly upgraded to a General Alarm at 4:04 p.m., necessitating additional resources, including Engines 2 and 3, Medic 8, Chief 1, Tower 5, Rescue 4, and Truck 7. A total of 11 firefighters and two EMS personnel were on the scene.

Firefighters faced significant challenges as the fire had become deep-seated in concealed void spaces within the attic and structure. Despite the difficult conditions, crews achieved fire control by 4:24 p.m. after completing a successful primary search of the building, which was declared clear of occupants at 4:17 p.m. Loss stopped was declared at 5:05 p.m.

"The Streator Fire Department would like to thank the Streator Police Department, VCOM, ComEd, Illinois American Water, and Nicor Gas for their assistance during the incident," the department stated.
