Sumter Woman Charged With Arson Following Saturday House Fire

Sumter, SC – A local woman has been arrested and charged with arson following a structural fire that occurred this past Saturday afternoon. The incident, which took place at a residence on Race Track Road, has prompted an ongoing investigation by local law enforcement officials.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to the scene on Saturday after receiving reports of a fire at the home. Upon their arrival, authorities observed that the residence had been fully engulfed by flames.

The suspect, identified as Patricia Anne Tilton, allegedly instructed other individuals at the scene to contact 911 for assistance. Witnesses at the location reported hearing windows breaking and observing smoke emanating from a room that Tilton had previously occupied.

During subsequent questioning by investigators, Tilton was found to be in possession of a torch lighter. Officials stated that the suspect admitted to using the device to ignite the fire during the course of a domestic dispute.

No injuries were reported, though the residence sustained significant damage as a result of the blaze. Following the investigation at the scene, Tilton was taken into custody by deputies and transported to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center.
