West Texas Storm Chances Rise to 50% Wednesday

Lubbock, Texas – Scattered showers and storms could affect the South Plains Wednesday, with rain chances around 40% to 50% and a high near 81 in Lubbock.

According to the National Weather Service in Lubbock, most locations will reach the upper 70s to mid-80s Wednesday. A few areas of the Caprock will climb into the lower 90s during the afternoon.

Lubbock is expected to reach 81 degrees, while nearby Slaton reaches 82 and Levelland and Plainview top out at 79. Brownfield also reaches 81, with Crosbyton at 82 and Post at 85.

Hotter conditions develop farther southeast. Aspermont is expected to reach 93 degrees, the highest temperature shown in the Weather Service outlook, while Guthrie reaches 92. Childress and Matador both climb to 87.

The coolest readings will favor communities farther northwest. Friona reaches 76 degrees, Muleshoe 77 and Tulia 78.

Isolated to scattered showers are expected across the region, with the Weather Service placing the chance of rain at about 40% to 50% at any given location. The highest chances are near the Texas-New Mexico state line.

Drivers should be prepared for locally changing conditions where showers or thunderstorms develop, but the Weather Service information does not specify rainfall amounts or severe weather hazards.

Wednesday's main concerns will be scattered rain and storms alongside a wide temperature range across West Texas. Residents near the Texas-New Mexico line should keep an eye on conditions as shower and thunderstorm chances remain highest there.
