Los Angeles County, CA: Child Found Dead Still Unidentified

Carson, CA – Los Angeles County homicide investigators are asking for the public’s help identifying a young girl who was found dead in the Dominguez Channel in Carson earlier this month.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the unidentified female child, believed to be between 8 and 11 years old, was found deceased Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, near the 20200 block of Avalon Boulevard.
Detectives with the department’s Homicide Bureau are now seeking information that could establish the child’s identity and assist with the ongoing death investigation.
The Sheriff’s Department released a forensic artist’s composite showing what the girl may have looked like, along with illustrations of clothing she was reportedly wearing when she was found.
Images released by investigators show a green long-sleeve “Jurassic World” shirt with dinosaur graphics, a red hooded sweatshirt with a graphic on the front and dark-colored pants.
Authorities are hoping someone may recognize either the child or the clothing and provide information that could help detectives determine who she is.
Investigators have not released additional details in the bulletin about how the child died or the circumstances that led to her being found in the channel.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau Detectives L. Sanchez or R. Gonzales at 323-890-5500.
People who want to provide information anonymously can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
The Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation and is asking the public to share information that may help identify the child.
