Huntsville, Alabama – North Alabama residents with Friday and Saturday outdoor plans should prepare now for thunderstorms and high heat, with rain chances climbing as high as 90% Saturday and heat index values reaching 104 degrees Friday. Drivers around Huntsville could encounter sudden downpours on I-565 and Memorial Parkway when storms develop.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, shower and thunderstorm chances run 20% to 40% Friday before increasing to 70% to 90% Saturday. Friday temperatures will reach 88 to 95 degrees, while the heat index could range from 92 to 104 degrees.
Saturday brings some relief from the heat but the highest rain risk. Highs fall to 82 to 92 degrees, with heat index readings of 91 to 103 degrees. Residents attending football games or other outdoor events should have shelter nearby and be ready to move indoors when thunder is heard.
Storm chances fall sharply Sunday and Monday, but temperatures rebound. Sunday highs reach 85 to 95 degrees before Monday and Tuesday climb as high as 94 to 95 degrees.
The Weather Service advises residents to hydrate, wear light clothing and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours. Never leave children, other people or pets inside vehicles.
