Residents across Anderson County are being warned about a phone scam in which callers falsely claim to be sheriff’s deputies and attempt to solicit money under the guise of outstanding warrants. Authorities say the callers may use real names of local officials to sound legitimate and may threaten arrest if immediate payment is not made.

Protecting Yourself

Law enforcement officials remind the public that the Sheriff's Office will never call to demand payment over the phone for outstanding warrants or threaten arrest in this manner. Residents are urged to hang up immediately if they receive such a call and to report the incident to their local authorities.
