Boise Warms to Near 90 Before Friday Cold Front

Boise, Idaho – Temperatures will climb toward 90 degrees at lower elevations Thursday before a Friday cold front brings gusty winds and cooler air.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, a warming trend will continue through Thursday across the region, despite astronomical fall beginning Tuesday evening. Lower-elevation temperatures are expected to peak around 90 degrees Thursday.

The warmth comes as the region enters astronomical fall at 6:05 p.m. MDT Tuesday. The autumnal equinox occurs when the sun crosses the equator, marking the seasonal transition from summer to fall in the Northern Hemisphere.

In Boise, Tuesday has about 12 hours and 11 minutes between sunrise and sunset, with sunrise at 7:33 a.m. and sunset at 7:44 p.m., according to the Weather Service graphic.

Daylight will continue decreasing through the winter solstice. By Oct. 1, Boise will have about 11 hours and 44 minutes between sunrise and sunset. That falls to 10 hours and 16 minutes by Nov. 1 and 9 hours and 11 minutes by Dec. 1.

Despite the shortening days, summerlike temperatures will remain the more immediate weather story through Thursday. People working or exercising outdoors during the warmest part of the day should plan for temperatures well above typical early-fall conditions.

A cold front will change the pattern Friday. The Weather Service expects the front to produce gusty winds and return temperatures to more seasonable levels.

Residents should monitor Friday conditions if they have outdoor or travel plans, particularly where gusty winds could affect exposed routes. Until then, the warming trend continues, with Thursday expected to bring the week's highest temperatures at lower elevations.
