Chatbot attachment issues

A Nature Human Behavior study examines how users reacted when major AI companion updates changed or removed familiar personalities and features. Analysis of more than 54,000 Reddit posts found sharp increases in negative sentiment, grief, anger, and mental-health concerns after updates to Replika and ChatGPT. The findings highlight both the support AI companions can provide and users’ vulnerability when companies alter them.
