Expired Plates Lead to Weld County Arrest

Weld County, CO – A routine traffic stop conducted by the Weld County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, resulted in the arrest of a local driver. A patrol deputy initiated the stop just after 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of 37th Street and 29th Avenue after noticing that the Ford Fusion had an expired license plate.

According to the sheriff's office, the deputy contacted the driver, who was identified as 38-year-old Christina Diaz. Upon further investigation into the vehicle's registration and the driver’s status, the deputy discovered that Diaz’s license had been reportedly revoked. Based on these findings, officers placed her under arrest at the scene.

Diaz was booked into the Weld County Sheriff’s Office jail on charges of driving a vehicle when the license is revoked as a habitual offender and operating a motor vehicle with expired plates. Authorities noted that the expired status of the plates was between one and 29 days old at the time of the stop. The department released her mugshot as part of the statement regarding the arrest.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office reminded the public that all charges mentioned are merely accusations at this stage of the judicial process. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
