Jefferson County, MO Homicide: Man Dies After Imperial Shooting

Imperial, MO – A man died after a reported shooting in Imperial Thursday night that triggered an hourslong barricade and SWAT response before a suspect surrendered to authorities.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the 2600 block of Breakwater at approximately 9 p.m. Thursday. Deputies arrived and found the victim across the street from the suspect's residence, sitting in a lawn chair and holding a towel against his chest in an effort to stop the bleeding.

Authorities said deputies immediately established a perimeter around the residence while providing protection so emergency medical personnel could safely reach and treat the wounded man.

The sheriff's office said its Crisis Response Team and SWAT were dispatched as deputies worked to resolve the barricade safely. After several hours, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities did not immediately release the victim's identity or additional information about the person taken into custody.

According to the sheriff's office, the Imperial case was the second domestic-related homicide deputies responded to Thursday. Authorities said both investigations remain active and additional information will be released when appropriate.

The sheriff's office did not provide additional details about what allegedly led to the Imperial shooting or announce charges against the suspect in its initial statement.
