Nebraska Weather Alert: 60-90% Storm Chance Monday Brings Tornado, Large Hail and Damaging Wind Risk

According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley office, storm probabilities reach 60% to 90% Monday. One round is expected Monday morning before more widespread thunderstorms develop during the evening and linger overnight. The intensity should gradually decrease after midnight.

Omaha, Lincoln, Fremont, Columbus and communities along the Interstate 80 corridor are within a Level 2 of 5 severe weather risk. The Weather Service indicates isolated tornadoes, scattered large hail and scattered damaging winds are possible within the broader risk area.

Before Monday's severe threat, Sunday remains cool and mostly cloudy. Morning thunderstorm chances range from 40% to 60%, with temperatures starting near 57 degrees. The afternoon high reaches only about 66.

Residents should charge phones and enable emergency alerts before Monday's storms develop. Anyone attending outdoor activities should know where to reach sturdy shelter quickly. Drivers should also be prepared for sudden heavy rain and reduced visibility.

Storms could persist into early Tuesday, although the severe threat is expected to weaken after midnight.
