Peoria Man Arrested After Reports of 27 Rounds Fired

Peoria, IL – Peoria Police officers responded to multiple ShotSpotter alerts on Monday, September 14, 2026, indicating that 27 rounds were fired in the vicinity of South McReynolds Street, South MacArthur Highway, West Hurlurt Street, and West First Avenue. The incident occurred at approximately 7:24 p.m., though officers reported that no victims were found upon searching the area.

According to the Peoria Police Department, investigators quickly identified 28-year-old LaMichael K. Moten as the primary suspect in the case. The following day, on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, authorities located Moten in the area of First Avenue and took him into custody without incident.

Moten was transported to the Peoria Police Department for questioning regarding the shooting. Following the investigation, he was formally arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. He was subsequently moved to the Peoria County Jail.

Officials stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
