Schaumburg Announces Higgins Road Weekend Closure

Schaumburg, IL – The Village of Schaumburg, in coordination with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), has announced a full closure of Higgins Road (Illinois 72) scheduled for the upcoming weekend. The closure is required to facilitate necessary repair work on the road section located underneath the I-290/Illinois 53 interchange.

According to the Village of Schaumburg, the closure is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, and is expected to last until 7:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026. The road will be closed to all traffic in both directions between East Frontage Road and West Frontage Road. Officials noted that the project is dependent on weather conditions and that the provided schedule is subject to change.

To assist motorists, IDOT has designated official detours. Eastbound traffic will be redirected via Meacham Road to Golf Road, then north on Arlington Heights Road to return to Higgins Road. Westbound traffic will follow a route using East Frontage Road to Golf Road, then west to West Frontage Road to rejoin Higgins Road. Additionally, officials stated that no turns will be permitted from Woodfield Road onto West Frontage Road during the duration of the closure. The ramp providing access to eastbound I-290 will remain open throughout the construction period.

Drivers are strongly encouraged to anticipate significant delays and plan their travels accordingly. Residents and commuters are advised to consider using alternate routes to avoid the construction zone. The village continues to emphasize the importance of exercising caution when navigating through or near areas affected by ongoing infrastructure repairs.
