Spokane County, WA Shooting: Teen Allegedly Deflects Gun Before Shot

Spokane, WA – A 19-year-old man faces a felony assault charge after authorities say an argument following a party escalated into an alleged attempt to shoot a juvenile in Spokane County.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, investigators allege Driven N. Reynoso became involved in an argument with the juvenile as a party was winding down. Deputies said Reynoso allegedly began making threats and reached toward a handgun tucked into his waistband.

Authorities allege Reynoso then pulled out the pistol and pointed it at the juvenile's face. The juvenile grabbed Reynoso's arm and moved the firearm away from his face just before Reynoso allegedly fired, causing the bullet to miss, investigators said.

The juvenile left the scene after the incident. No gunshot injury was reported.

The Regional Anti-Violence Enforcement & Narcotics Task Force continued the investigation and developed probable cause to arrest Reynoso on suspicion of first-degree assault. Investigators later obtained a search warrant.

On Sept. 3, the RAVEN Task Force and SWAT served the warrant at a residence, but Reynoso was not there, according to the Sheriff's Office. Authorities said Reynoso later called 911 after learning investigators were looking for him.

Task force members and the Spokane Police Department Gun Crimes Unit contacted Reynoso in the 4100 block of North Market Street and took him into custody around 10 p.m.

According to investigators, Reynoso denied pointing the handgun at the juvenile.

Reynoso was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a felony first-degree assault charge. A court commissioner set his bond at $150,000, and the Sheriff's Office said he remained in custody.

The charge is an allegation. Reynoso is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
