Up From the Ashes

A research team is working to revive the story of an ancient site buried by Mount Vesuvius. The Oplontis Project, led by art historian John R. Clarke with alumnus Michael L. Thomas, examines the eruption’s destruction and the remains preserved beneath the ash. The project offers new insight into Roman life, art and archaeology.
