Washington County, WI House Fire: Kitchen Engulfed Monday Night

Hartford, WI – A Monday evening house fire in Washington County left a single-family home with significant smoke damage, but authorities reported no injuries as crews from six area fire departments responded.

According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, authorities were notified of the fire at 6268 Arthur Road in the Town of Hartford at approximately 7:10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21.

The homeowner called 911 after returning home and finding fire alarms sounding, the kitchen engulfed in flames and the residence filled with black smoke, authorities said. No family members were inside when the fire began.

Washington County sheriff's deputies and St. Lawrence Fire Department personnel were the first emergency responders to arrive.

Firefighters contained the blaze to the kitchen area and ventilated the residence to clear smoke from inside, according to the sheriff's office. St. Lawrence firefighters received assistance from the Hartford, Slinger, Allenton, Richfield and Jackson fire departments.

Authorities described the property as a single-family home. While the kitchen sustained moderate fire damage, officials said significant smoke damage occurred throughout the residence.

No estimate of the financial loss was immediately available.

Washington County investigators are now working to determine where and how the fire started. The sheriff's office reported no injuries to residents, first responders or fire personnel.

The investigation remained ongoing as of the sheriff's office's Sept. 21 press release, and authorities had not announced a suspected cause.
