Winnebago County, WI Fatal Crash: 1 Dead, 2 Hurt Tuesday

Wolf River, WI – One person was killed and two drivers were hospitalized Tuesday after a two-vehicle crash in the Town of Wolf River in Winnebago County, Wisconsin.

According to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, Fremont Ambulance and the Fremont Wolf River Fire Department responded at approximately 12:29 p.m. Tuesday to County Trunk II and Riverview Road for a reported two-vehicle collision.

First responders arrived and discovered that a passenger in one of the vehicles had died, authorities said. The passenger’s identity was being withheld Tuesday pending notification of family members.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to an area hospital with injuries described by the sheriff’s office as non-life-threatening. Authorities did not release their names or provide additional details about their conditions.

Investigators have not yet announced what caused the crash.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol Traffic Reconstruction Unit and Drone Unit and the Winnebago County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Winnebago County Highway Department and Expert Towing also assisted at the scene.

Authorities said the roadway was closed for approximately four hours while investigators documented the crash scene and crews completed cleanup operations.

The sheriff’s office said no further information was being released as of Tuesday afternoon. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not indicated whether citations or other enforcement action could result from the crash.

Additional information, including the identity of the passenger who died, may be released after family notification and as the investigation progresses.
