Wisconsin – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced revisions to the boundaries for Deer Management Units (DMUs) in the Northern and Central Forest zones ahead of the 2026 hunting season. These adjustments are intended to streamline management practices and provide clarity for hunters across the state.
According to the DNR, DMUs within the Northern and Central Forest zones are now designated by specific identification numbers rather than county names. Conversely, Farmland Zone DMUs will continue to be identified by their respective county names. These changes require hunters to verify their management zone and specific DMU information before purchasing authorizations or licenses.
The department is emphasizing the importance of utilizing the most recent Deer Management Unit map to ensure compliance with current regulations. Hunters are encouraged to visit the official DNR deer hunting webpage at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/hunt/deer to review the updated maps and seasonal structures before registering their deer or managing their "Go Wild" accounts.
The season structure includes various designations, such as buck-only units, antlerless harvest authorizations, and special holiday hunts extending through January 31, 2027. By consulting the latest information, hunters can ensure they are properly prepared for the upcoming season. The DNR remains committed to providing transparent guidance to help sportsmen and sportswomen successfully navigate the updated management requirements.
