Grays Harbor County, WA Missing Man Search Continues After Kayak Found

Grays Harbor County, WA – The search for missing man Jeffrey Damasiewicz remains active Thursday after weeks of searches involving marine crews and divers failed to determine his whereabouts.

According to the Grays Harbor Sheriff's Office, Damasiewicz's blue kayak was discovered by a member of the public in Blue Slough on Aug. 29, providing investigators with an important focus for subsequent search efforts.

The sheriff's Marine Unit returned to the area Aug. 30 and conducted additional searches in hopes of locating evidence or information that could help determine where Damasiewicz went.

Additional resources from King County joined the search Sept. 3.

The effort expanded again Sept. 14, when divers from King and Thurston counties conducted an underwater search. The sheriff's office said the dive operation did not locate anything that helped investigators determine Damasiewicz's whereabouts.

Despite those unsuccessful searches, authorities said Thursday that the investigation has not stopped.

The sheriff's office continues to look for signs, information or evidence that could help investigators reconstruct Damasiewicz's movements and determine what happened.

Authorities are particularly interested in information from people who may have seen Damasiewicz, his kayak or related items around waterways where he may have traveled.

Anyone with potentially relevant information is asked to contact Grays Harbor 911. Investigators stressed that even seemingly minor observations could prove important and urged people not to assume someone else has already reported them.

Search-and-rescue personnel, divers, marine units and assisting agencies remain involved in the broader effort to locate Damasiewicz.
