Green Bay Weather: Frost Risk Grows Early Wednesday

Green Bay, Wisconsin – Frost could damage sensitive plants across north-central Wisconsin early Wednesday as temperatures fall into the middle 30s.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. through 7 a.m. Wednesday for parts of north-central Wisconsin. Frost is expected to develop late tonight and continue into the early morning.

The advisory includes areas around Manitowish Waters, Rhinelander, Tomahawk and Merrill, according to the NWS map. Florence County and other portions of far northern Wisconsin are also within the highlighted advisory area.

Temperatures across the affected region are expected to fall into the middle 30s. Those readings can allow frost to form near the ground, particularly in colder and more sheltered locations.

Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered. Residents across the advisory area should protect vulnerable gardens, flowers and other vegetation before going to bed Tuesday night.

The advisory does not cover all of northeast Wisconsin. Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Wausau and communities along much of the Lake Michigan shoreline are outside the highlighted area on the NWS map.

The greatest concern will run from 1 to 7 a.m. Wednesday. Residents in north-central Wisconsin should keep sensitive vegetation protected through the early morning, when temperatures will be cold enough for frost development.
