Lake County, FL Murder: Jury Convicts Woman in Couple's Deaths

Mount Dora, FL – A Lake County jury has convicted a 53-year-old woman of two counts of first-degree murder in the 2022 stabbing deaths of a retired Mount Dora couple, with prosecutors now seeking the death penalty.

According to the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office, jurors deliberated for roughly 30 minutes before finding Vickie Lynn Williams guilty in the deaths of 83-year-old Darryl Getman and 80-year-old Sharon Getman.

The couple was found stabbed to death inside their home at the Lakeside at Waterman Village retirement community in Mount Dora on Dec. 31, 2022.

Authorities said the investigation involved the Mount Dora Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Lake County Sheriff's Office. FDLE forensic analysts provided evidence prosecutors said connected Williams to the crime scene.

Following the killings, authorities said Williams fled in the Getmans' green Kia Soul and took jewelry, paintings and other property belonging to the couple. She was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, on Jan. 2, 2023, and has since remained in the Lake County Jail without bond.

During the trial, prosecutors presented physical and forensic evidence, surveillance footage and items recovered from Williams' possession, including property belonging to the Getmans and their vehicle.

Jurors ultimately returned guilty verdicts on all counts charged.

"This verdict brings accountability for the brutal deaths of Darryl and Sharon Getman," State Attorney Bill Gladson said following the verdict.

Williams was returned to custody after the verdict. Prosecutors said they are seeking the death penalty, with the next phase of proceedings scheduled to begin Thursday, Sept. 24.
