Pinellas County Teen Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Pursuit

Pinellas County, FL – A 16-year-old was taken into custody last Thursday following a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that spanned multiple areas of the county. The incident concluded with the suspect being apprehended after attempting to flee on foot.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, deputies first spotted the stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on Ulmerton Road. Maintaining a safe distance, deputies utilized the agency's Eagle helicopter unit to monitor the vehicle's movements from the air.

The driver eventually turned into a shopping center located near the intersection of Park Boulevard and 49th Street, where the situation escalated as the driver began maneuvering through the parking lot. Authorities report that when a deputy approached the suspect from the opposite direction, the driver attempted to exit the area by driving across the lot and heading toward a nearby CVS.

During this time, the suspect allegedly unloaded a passenger. The vehicle was eventually contained when a deputy blocked the exit while another unit pursued from behind, leaving the driver no path to continue. Upon stopping, the suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to run before being apprehended by a deputy who deployed a Taser.

The teen initially claimed the vehicle belonged to his grandmother, though investigators determined this was not the case. The 16-year-old is facing multiple charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing to elude, resisting arrest without violence, and operating a vehicle without a valid driver's license.

The investigation remains ongoing as the suspect is processed through the juvenile justice system. No injuries were reported during the pursuit or the subsequent apprehension of the teen. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office continues to monitor traffic and safety incidents across the region.
