Sterling, VA Crash: 77-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed Wednesday

Sterling, VA – A 77-year-old woman was killed in a pedestrian crash Wednesday evening in Sterling, prompting an investigation by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded at approximately 8:08 p.m. Wednesday to Innovation Avenue near Sully Road after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle.

Deputies arrived to find the pedestrian and two vehicles involved in the crash, identified as an SUV and a sedan. Both drivers remained at the scene and were not injured, authorities said.

The pedestrian was identified as Jacqueline Heaps, 77, of Sterling. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have not released additional details about how the two vehicles were involved or the sequence of events leading to Heaps being struck.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Thursday. The sheriff's office said speed and alcohol are not believed to have been contributing factors at this stage of the investigation.

Authorities are now seeking witnesses or others who may have information that could help investigators determine what happened.
