Chicago, IL – Two people face felony charges after allegedly placing about $2,100 worth of high-end activewear into a garbage bag and leaving a Michigan Avenue store without paying, authorities announced Thursday.

According to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, Alo loss prevention employees alerted the Sheriff's Police Organized Retail Crime unit at approximately 2:15 p.m. Sept. 23 after two people entered the store in the 700 block of Michigan Avenue.

Authorities allege the pair placed approximately $2,100 in merchandise inside a black garbage bag and left without paying. They then headed toward an Acura SUV parked outside, according to the sheriff's office.

Officers arrested 32-year-old Jermaine Kimbrough and 32-year-old Kahdijah Terry, both of Chicago, before they entered the SUV. Sheriff's police said the Acura had previously been reported stolen in Chicago.

Officers recovered the merchandise and returned it to the store.

Kimbrough and Terry were each charged with felony retail theft. Both were ordered released from custody on those charges following their first court appearances at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

Terry, however, remained in the Cook County Jail, according to the sheriff's office. Authorities said she was being held on an Illinois Department of Corrections parole violation warrant and a Lake County retail theft warrant.

The sheriff's office also said Terry was on parole for previous convictions, including retail theft.

The provided release did not announce charges related to the allegedly stolen Acura.

The charges are allegations. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
