Cass County, MI Body Found: Woman Identified Weeks Later

Cass County, MI – Authorities have identified a 40-year-old Niles woman whose body was discovered in a farm field in southwest Michigan last month, as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, detectives and Michigan State Police identified the deceased woman as Amber Star Laylin, 40, of Niles with assistance from the Western Michigan Medical Examiner's Office.

Laylin's body was located Aug. 13 in the area of McKenzie Street and Churchill Street in Cass County's Volinia Township, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities announced the identification Thursday. The sheriff's office did not disclose in its public notice how Laylin died, how long she may have been in the field or whether investigators suspect criminal activity.

The case remains under investigation.
