Upper Michigan Frost Advisory Starts at 8 P.M.

Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan – Temperatures could fall to 33 degrees tonight, allowing frost to threaten sensitive plants across the eastern Upper Peninsula.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a frost advisory takes effect at 8 p.m. Monday and continues until 9 a.m. Tuesday. The advisory covers interior locations in Central and Western Chippewa counties and Eastern and Western Mackinac counties.

Frost could form as temperatures fall into the lower 30s, creating a risk for gardens and other sensitive outdoor vegetation. Plants left uncovered may be killed.

The advisory includes inland areas of Chippewa County, which encompasses Sault Ste. Marie and extends west across the eastern Upper Peninsula. Mackinac County is also included, with the frost threat focused on interior locations.

Residents with gardens, flowers or other tender vegetation should take protective measures before temperatures fall Monday evening. The National Weather Service advises people to cover vulnerable plants or otherwise protect them from the cold.

The frost advisory begins at 8 p.m., making Monday evening the key window for residents to finish preparations. The threat will continue overnight and through the early Tuesday morning hours.

Temperatures should reach their coldest levels overnight, with readings as low as 33 degrees supporting frost formation in sheltered and interior locations.

The advisory expires at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Residents across interior Chippewa and Mackinac counties should keep sensitive plants protected until the frost threat ends Tuesday morning.
