Michigan State Police Expand Online Resources for Unsolved Crimes

Michigan state investigators have announced a new initiative to assist in the resolution of cold cases. Searching for information on unsolved crimes and sharing details directly with Michigan State Police (MSP) investigators is now more accessible through dedicated webpages highlighting these cases. Col. James F. Grady II, director of the MSP, stated that the online resource is a logical next step in expanding the reach of specialized Cold Case units and investigative college programs across the state.

September marks National Cold Case Month, a period dedicated to bringing renewed attention to unsolved homicides, missing persons, and serial offenses. Statewide, the MSP manages approximately 200 open incidents at any given time, with 11 currently featured on the newly updated website, Michigan.gov/ColdCases. Each entry includes regional sorting and a narrative summary of the incident. The department plans to add additional cases as the program evolves.

Kelly Hodges, a Criminal Intelligence Analyst with the Cold Case Unit, emphasized the importance of victim advocacy in the process. "Our detectives picked investigations to spotlight with family approval," Hodges said. "We are actively soliciting tips in hopes of closing cases, but we think it is equally important to show that we have not forgotten the victims." Individuals with information regarding any cold case in Michigan are encouraged to submit details via the online form or by emailing MSP-ColdCase@michigan.gov.
