Upper Michigan Weather Alert: 0.50 Inch of Rain Possible Friday Night as Thunderstorms Reach Western U.P.

Marquette, Michigan – Upper Peninsula residents should prepare Friday for a sharp weather transition, with afternoon temperatures reaching 77 to 82 degrees before showers and thunderstorms move into western communities Friday night. Rain could affect nighttime travel and linger into Saturday morning before temperatures retreat into the 70s.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, Thursday night will remain clear and cool, with inland temperatures falling as low as 45 degrees while communities closer to the Great Lakes stay warmer. Friday turns partly cloudy before rain and thunderstorm chances increase Friday night, particularly across the western U.P.

Potential rainfall through Saturday morning generally ranges from 0.01 to 0.25 inch across much of the peninsula. Parts of the west could receive 0.25 to 0.50 inch, with locally higher amounts indicated near the far northwestern shoreline.

Drivers using U.S. 41 and other western U.P. routes Friday night should watch for reduced visibility and wet pavement as showers develop. Anyone with Friday evening outdoor plans should monitor weather alerts and have indoor shelter available if thunder is heard.

Saturday will be noticeably cooler, with highs of 70 to 75 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms remain possible, mainly during the morning, before conditions begin to improve.
